When you own a boat, you can use it for all sorts of entertaining on the water. Birthday parties, receptions, and just casual gatherings are all great ways to enjoy your boat, but all of them require a crucial component: food. Fortunately, cooking on your boat isn’t as hard as it may seem, provided you plan ahead and follow some strategies.

Chop Foods on Shore

If possible, try to chop and dice up fruits, vegetables, meats, and any other components of your cooking that need to be cut up while you’re moored at the dock or at home. Store cut-up foods to bring with you to save on prep time and avoid the dangers of using a knife while the boat is in motion.

Thicken Up Liquids

Soups and stews can be an excellent meal option when it’s chilly outside, but make sure to thicken up any liquid broths with corn starch or instant mashed potato flakes. Hot liquids present a danger to your passengers otherwise.

Try a Portable Grill

There are a number of grills available on the market that you can mount to a seat or the side of your boat for preparing cuts of meat and vegetables. Always be cautious about how you light the grill and make sure that nothing flammable is nearby.

Plan for Trash

A trash can with a lid that’s sturdy enough to remain upright will help prevent trash from flying over the side of your boat. You may want separate receptacles for composting and recycling as well. Make sure that every bit of waste is secured to prevent pollution.
