In order to make your fishing trips successful, you need to have a properly-stocked fishing boat. While you may have rods and reels and bait, there are some things you’ll want to have in your tackle box to ensure your success. Here are some of those items that you don’t want to forget.

Lures

Live bait is typically best for fishing but lures work just as well in many cases. Bring a variety of different types of lures so that you can swap them out as needed.

Bobbers & Sinkers

Bobbers are simply little floats that help you to see where you’ve cast your line so that you’ll notice when a fish has bitten your hook. Red-and-white plastic balls are standard, but you can also use a cork with a stick in it.

Sinkers are metallic weights that pull your hook deeper into the water so that you can reach the fish you want to catch. Older weights were made from lead, but this metal’s toxicity has led to modern sinkers being made from steel or tungsten instead. Bring extra sinkers, since this item is easy to lose to the depths!

Extra Fishing Line

A fishing line can easily tangle on an object underwater or snap if pulled by a particularly strong fish. You may also need more than one type of line, depending on the type of fish you want to catch. Bring additional reels of heavy and light fishing lines as a precaution.

Additional Supplies

A pair of needle-nosed pliers will always be useful on your fishing boat. You can use this handy tool to pull hooks out of fish, bend wires, and make other minor adjustments. Similarly, a pair of nail clippers is the perfect way to trim your fishing line. You should also bring a small knife or multitool that can help you trim ropes or gut your fish.
